Sun Doors Garden (Jardim das Portas do Sol)

The Garden of Sun Doors is a privileged location high in Santarém. From this viewpoint, a visitor can see the Tagus River, the bridge Dom Luís I, and neighboring towns of Almeirim and Alpiarça. The gardens are located where there was a Moorish citadel. The walls you see here are part of that citadel.

Santarém
We only drove through Santarém to go to Portas do Sol (Sun Doors), a lookout point high in the city. The city is believed to have been founded by the Romans, who took over the region in the 2nd century BC. Só passamos rapidamente por Santarém para ir até a Portas do Sol, um mirante no alto da cidade. Acredita-se que a cidade tenha sido fundada pelos romanos, que conquistaram a região no século II AC.
