Alcobaça

ENGLISH:
The city of Alcobaça gets its name from the two rivers that cross the city: Alcoa and Baça. The city became well known because Portugal's first king, Afonso Henriques, built a church celebrating the victory over the Moors in 1147. The church became the Monastery of Alcobaça, one of the most magnificent gothic monuments in Portugal.

A cidade de Alcobaça recebe o nome dos dois rios que a atravessam: Alcoa e Baça. A cidade tornou-se conhecida porque o primeiro rei de Portugal, Afonso Henriques, construiu uma igreja para comemorar a vitória sobre os mouros em 1147. A igreja passou a ser o Mosteiro de Alcobaça, um dos mais magníficos monumentos góticos de Portugal.
