The Monastery of Batalha celebrates the victory of the Portuguese over the Castilians at the battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is an example of Gothic style evolved Manueline art influences. Construction of the monastery took over 100 years, starting in 1386 and ending circa 1517. The statue of General Nuno Álvares Pereira graces the main entrance plaza of the monastery. He was the general that commanded the forces to win the battle of Aljubarrota. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009. His religous name is Saint Constable or as Saint Nuno of Saint Mary.

O Mosteiro da Batalha celebra a vitória dos portugueses sobre os castelhanos na batalha de Aljubarrota em 1385. Este Património Mundial da UNESCO é um exemplo de influências da arte manuelina evoluídas do estilo gótico.
