I was raised on the northeast
coast of Brazil, in Fortaleza, the capital of the state of Ceará. Youngest
of four brothers, I grew up like any other kid. I played
a lot of soccer, went to
the beach regularly, and did the usual stuff. In 1981, I came to Texas.
Except for about 11 months, I have lived in Texas since then. Austin
is my home now. You can read more
about Brazil and my hometown in the Brazil section
of this site.
Professionally, since December 9, 1996, I work at the School
of Social Work as Assistant Dean for Finance. I'll leave
it up to you to explore that side of me if that interests you.
I used to sing with the Capital City Men's Chorus (CCMC),
Austin's gay men's chorus and a member of the Gay and Lesbian Association
of Choruses,
GALA. I was president of CCMC for two consecutive seasons (1992-93 and
1993-94). I remained a board member (Immediate Past President) until
May 1995. Other interests and obligations led me to a different path,
and I no longer sing with the chorus.
I enjoy listening
to music, photography, going to movies, playing racquetball, hiking, camping, kayaking, biking (road and mountain) and
doing other fun things around Austin. However, Brazilian music is really
my passion. Since 1997, I have been contributing CD reviews and articles
to various sources, such as Luna
Kafé, Bossa
Magazine, Brazzil and Caravan
Music (site is no longer available).
I have
also done
some songs and liner notes translations for record labels. A few times
I was also a guest host at the radio show Horizontes on
KUT Austin 90.5 FM on Friday afternoons, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM (Central
Standard Time). I have also contributed some CD reviews to JazzTimes.
In 2002, I decided it was
time to get my own domain and start moving my reviews and articles to
one
location: Música
Brasileira.
